Beloved King’s Creative Team

J. Sylvan

(creator, playwright, songwriter)

J. Sylvan is a theater creator, songwriter, essayist and minister currently living and serving in Houston, TX. They have been creating theater since 2008, and began pursuing ministry through the Unitarian Universalist Church in 2016.

While in seminary as a Ministry Fellow at Harvard Divinity School, J. became fascinated with the artistry of the Bible and its interpretations, specifically the story of young King David and his relationships in the books of Samuel. The text, as well as the many attested queer readings of it, inspired them to write Beloved King as their Master’s Thesis.
